Jesus Christ Ascends to Heaven

Psalm 47

1 Clap your hands, all you peoples; *
raise to God a shout of joy.

2 For the LORD Most High is awesome; *
            Sovereign over all the earth.

3 He subdues the peoples under us, *
and sets the nations at our feet.

4 He chose the Promised Land as our inheritance, *
the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

5 God has ascended with shouts of joy! *
The LORD has ascended with the blast of the shofar.

6 O Sing praises to God, sing praises! *
O Sing praises to our King, sing praises!

7 God reigns over all the earth; *
sing praises with all your skill.

8 God reigns over all the nations. *
God sits upon his holy throne.

Almighty Father, your blessed Son ascended far beyond the heavens that he might fill all things. In your mercy, give us the faith to perceive that, according to his promise, he abides with his Church on Earth, even to the end of the age. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and everAmen.

Father, all-powerful and ever-living God, at all times and in all places it is right to give you thanks and praise, yet we do so with greater joy than ever in this Easter season, when Christ became our Paschal Sacrifice.

Born of a woman, he came to the rescue of our fallen race. Dying for us, he shattered death and conquered sin. Rising again, he opened the way to eternal life. Ascending to your right hand, he gives us a sure and certain hope that he will come again to draw us to himself, that where he is we may also be.

Therefore, in a universe echoing with Easter joy, we praise you, joining our voices with angels and archangels, and with all your saints of every time and place, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your holy Name.

Christ our Great High Priest

Psalm 110

1  The LORD said unto my Master: *
            "Sit at my right hand,
until I make your enemies your footstool."

2 The LORD will send you forth like a mighty scepter from Jerusalem, *
and you will rule in the midst of your foes.

3 On the day you lead your armies in power, *
your people, vested in holy attire, will offer themselves freely to you.

4      They will join you at the break of day, *
filled with the vigor of youth.

5 The LORD has sworn an oath that he will never take back: *
"You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek."

Eternal Father, you have exalted your beloved Son with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven where, even now, he intercedes for us as our Great High Priest. Grant that we, who have been joined with him through Baptismal water, may entrust ourselves to him with a confident faith, and serve him with unwavering fervor as we as we await the day of his return. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Father, all-powerful and ever-living God, at all times and in all places it is right to give you thanks and praise, yet we do so with greater joy than ever in this Easter season, when Christ became our Paschal Sacrifice.

In his Ascension to your right hand, he is revealed to us as your Great High Priest, the One who hears the cries of his people, and pours out upon them the grace and comfort of the Spirit.

Therefore, in a universe echoing with Easter joy, we praise you, joining our voices with angels and archangels, and with all your saints of every time and place, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your holy Name.
